Course Content
Bachelor of Sowa-Rigpa Medicine and Surgery (BSRMS) course
BSRMS is a five-year and 6-month long bachelor’s degree course. The course duration includes 4.5 years of academic sessions and one year of compulsory rotatory internship. The 4.5 years of educational sessions are divided into three professional courses of 1.5 years (18 months) each.
In the first professional course, following subjects are covered;
- History and Fundamental Principles of Sowa-Rigpa
- Human Anatomy and Physiology of Sowa -Rigpa and Modern medicine
- Sowa-Rigpa Pathology (Part One)
- Principles of Disease Prevention and Public health
- Materia Medica (Part One)
- Sowa-Rigpa Medical Astrology
- Tibetan Language
- Yoga & Meditation
In the second professional course, following subjects are covered along with practical training and hands-on medicine formulations, daignostic tools, etc;
- Sowa-Rigpa Pharmacology and Pharmaceutics
- Principles of Sowa-Rigpa Therapeutics
- Internal medicine ( Management of various disorders including ENT, etc.)
- Sowa-Rigpa Pathology (Part Two)
- Materia Medica (Part Two)
In the third and final professional, following subjects are covered along with clinical exposures and regular training at the teaching hospital;
- External Therapies and general surgery
- Five Therapeutic (སྦྱོང་བྱེད་ལས་ལྔའི་ལག་ལེན།) procedures
- Paediatrics and Neonatal care
- Obstetrics and Gynaecology
- Clinical Psychology and Toxicology
- Modern Research Methodology and Medical statistics.
